Christeas learned a valuable lesson from his mother that would shape his artistic journey: fear should never hinder creativity. Her words, always encouraging him to put the colors on the canvas, instilled in him a fearless approach to art.
Picasso later influenced Christeas’ work during their time together in Paris, when Christeas sought refuge from a military dictatorship in Greece. Picasso recognized Christeas’ internal struggle and said, “You must fight for what you love the most.”
Christeas’ art took a backseat as he returned to Greece to fight for his country’s freedom. His paintings, however, continued to be a powerful tool in his activism. His career flourished after successfully removing the dictatorship, culminating in a pivotal show, ‘Art and Freedom,’ at the Cultural Olympiad Athens 2004, where he featured 125 artworks. On the opening night, the Minister of Progress honored Christeas and his freedom fighters as national heroes for defeating the dictatorship and restoring democracy in Greece.
Today, Christeas teaches art on his YouTube channel, where he always encourages his viewers to get the colors on the canvas and fight for what they love the most.
